Hey there SQS’ers!
There are some big changes in the Chicago QTPOC community. Lots of new, wonderful organizations are being started. And there is still a need to circulate information about our community in Spanish. So we’ve decided to post this list. Please feel free to circulate widely!
This is a general pflag pdf in Spanish, very LGBT 101.
This is a more specific pflag pdf about trans* identities in Spanish.
This is a more updated, more specific pdf from Advocates for Youth.
These are organizations that are either specifically LGBTQ/trans* related run by or have many members who are Latin@s.
There is also this list of resources put together by Gozamos.
You can also try The Chicago House, The Center on Halsted, and Howard Brown (those are big names in the queer/trans* Chicago community, with some Spanish speaking staff).
There are two major events this summer for the QTPOC community and they are: Dyke March and TGIF. Both are known for their inclusiveness and emphasis on supporting QTPOC. Dyke March is June 22nd and TGIF is July 28th.
For clinical/mental health resources, we suggest Howard Brown or IntraSpectrum Counseling (which is a network of professionals in Chicago). The Center on Halsted also has folks on staff, two of whom speak Spanish, but we’re not sure if they have gender identity experience.
For two places to access hormones, we can refer folks to Howard Brown. There you have access to sliding scale treatment, meet with doctors who specialize in the trans* community, and speak to folks in Spanish. HRT is available for folks who identity as MTF, FTM, and genderqueer. The Chicago Women’s Health Center provides T and care for trans* masculine individuals, (in addition to counseling) but we have less information on them.
Definitely hit up The Chicago House and the Center on Halsted and Howard Brown if you’re looking for general trans* community needs and resources. There aren’t always qtpoc available there, but you’ll have the most luck finding other folks through larger venues.
Don’t forget to check out our resource page, where we’ve included many online forms of information as well.
If you have any other questions or organizations to add, please let us know!
Thank you!
